Is the English Mastiff the right breed for you ?
Mastiffs are loving gentle giants. The larger of the breed can range from 26 to 36 inches at the shoulder. Their weight can range from 140 to 225 pounds plus. They will consume 6 to 10 cups of high quality food a day.
This is not an apartment or small house dog, at 200 pounds they need room. Their swinging tail is a lethal weapon against breakables and people. Mastiffs tend to drool and slobber (like a Saint Bernard but not as bad) so be prepared. When they move it feels and sounds like a train coming. They love to keep you warm and will want to sleep in bed with you. Mastiffs want to be with you. They love kids and will become part of the family. Watch that tail, it can knock over small kids. Because of their size and bark they are great at protecting the family and property, but they are not attack dogs, but more of the protective family pet.
Mastiff cost more the a smaller dog to keep and care for. They eat more and cost more at the vets as well. A bigger dog takes more medicine. Training is a must !!!! Do you want a 200 pound dog pulling you around ?
